Call out to assemble Timon Championship teams of ’69, ’79, ’84, ’94, and ‘99

As Bishop Timon – St. Jude celebrates homecoming with a football game on Friday, October 25 at Tifft Field vs. St. Mary’s, Timon Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Joe Licata is continuing the tradition of inviting back past championship teams to be honored at pre-game ceremony.

This year, championship teams of 50, 40, 35, 25, and 20 years ago will be remembered.

In 1969, the Tigers claimed the Burke League Football Title.  Under Coach Joe O'Grady, the Timon team beat St. Joes 12-6 in snowy conditions to win it all.

After losing their first game, the 1979 Timon Tigers rattled off 8 straight wins to claim the Monsignor Martin Championship.  Who could forget the come from behind victory over St. Joes?  Or the 40-6 romping of Canisius?

The 1984 Tigers won their 6th league title in seven years, and was ranked the #2 team in WNY.  The Tigers were on a dominant stretch and had not lost a game to a Western New York opponent in 2 years!

After a seven year drought, the 1994 Tigers brought the hardware back to 601 McKinley Parkway.  Remember beating O'Hara, St. Francis, Canisius, and your perfect game against St. Joes?

The 1999 Timon Football team won a championship, beating rivals O'Hara, Turner, St. Mary's, Canisius along the way.  To secure the title for Timon, the '99 team beat St. Francis 23-19 in the last game of the season!

The school has worked to reach out to as many members of these teams as possible, but often our rosters are incomplete.

If you know a member of one of these teams, please let them know we are looking for them. The pre-game ceremony will start at 6:45pm.

If you are one of our champions, Please RSVP to Joe Licata by email at licata@bishoptimon.com October 21st to confirm your attendance and how many members of your immediate family will be with you.
