Meet Austin Watkins, Class of 2017

What activities have you been involved with while at Timon?

During my 3 years at Timon, I have been on the JV and Varsity Football team, Varsity Track team, and Freshman Basketball team. I have and currently am participating in the Healthcare Career Club, Student Senate and Art Club. I have also participated in leadership programs and community service jobs outside of Timon.

What does a Franciscan education mean to you?

A Franciscan education means a lot to me. It's more than just reciting prayers and learning about who St. Francis was. It's living and learning how to become the man he was and living a life that is good and pure. A Franciscan education means giving back to your community or parish. It also means being a great and respectable man and setting examples for those who look up to you.

Future plans after you graduate from Timon?

After I graduate from Timon I want to go to either Jackson State University or West Virginia University to study business management and entrepreneurship. I have a great love for wanting to manage and own something that can help people in some way, shape, or form. When I was younger I used to say I want to own my own business and make my brand known around America. When I chose to come to Timon I believed it would help mold and shape me into a good business man. Timon offers so much help and guidance for me to reach my goal.

Advice for a student looking at Timon?

Yes, Timon is a small school and I understand you might want to go somewhere with lots of people. But Timon is more than just a school, it's a brotherhood. Timon is a family and we all have bonds that are unbreakable. Freshman year is tough for any kid at any school but don’t worry, at Timon we are very open and willing and we are always looking to make new friends. Fitting in is not a problem. When I was a freshman I thought I was going to have trouble fitting in but the guys that were here welcomed me and took me in as one of their brothers. Ever since then I have enjoyed Timon and have made so many friends and have had the best high school experience anyone can have.
